SIVASAGAR, March 12: The 44- km national highway four-lane expansion work from Janjhi to Demow by the National Highway Authority has been running for over 7 years since 2016. Under severe public criticism from the public, the government has finally expedited the work keeping in view the elections in 2024.

The work, now assigned to Harlalka group at a cost of over Rs. 52 crores, is progressing rapidly. But the people of Charing and Gaurisagar, and Phulpanichiga are now apprehensive of flood in the rainy season as the Harlalka group has filled the Rangajan, a rivulet streaming alongside the NH37 from Gaurisagar to Janjhi.
The people want that the natural stream should not be blocked from carrying away the excess rainwater in the flood season.
Himadrijyoti Dutta, resident of Janjhi, blamed the highway authority for neglecting the natural reservoir and the ecology of the region. Further, the group’s work is also criticized for low quality works in many portions of the highway from Janjhi to Gaurisagar. The Cleaning and grubbing work was not done properly.
