BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 18: Acting on a tip off, a team of Sootea police headed by Shyamal Jyoti Saikia, officer-in-charge of Sootea PS recovered 690 cartons of Arunachal Pradesh made liquor from a cement laden truck bearing registration number NL 07 A 6999 in the wee hours of Saturday. Subsequently, a team of Sootea police stopped the truck at Sootea and conducted a thorough search of the truck.
Surprisingly, 690 cartons of Arunachal Pradesh made liquor were kept in the middle of cement bags. Sootea police seized the truck and the cartons of liquor. Biswanath SP Navin Singh who reached the site along with DSP Jayanta Barua interrogated the apprehended truck driver.
The truck was bound for Manipur, informed SP Singh.
Addressing the media, SP Singh said that the liquor smugglers have adopted innovative techniques of smuggling. The market value of the seized liquor would be worth Rs 30 lakh, said the SP.
