DIPHU, March 29: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) led by chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The KAAC submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister requesting immediate implementation of Article 244 (A) of the constitution for the creation of an autonomous state for the hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and NC Hills in the state of Assam.

The memorandum also requested the full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 1995 and MoS of 2011 and 2021 signed by different armed groups with the state and central government.
The KAAC also requested the sanctioning of a special grant-in-aid for all-round development of the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong and direct funding from the Central government.
After submitting the memorandum, Ronghang told the media that the longstanding demand of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, i.e., autonomous state, is included in the memorandum.
“The Prime Minister has given a patient hearing to our request and assured us that the points mentioned in the memorandum will be discussed by the Central government,” he said.
A Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Pawan Kumar Rai, who was contacted over phone, informed that the team met the Prime Minister in Parliament House while a session was going on.
The delegation included Executive Members (EMs), KAAC, MACs, and MLAs from both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. The KAAC delegation has been advocating for the creation of an autonomous state for the hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and NC Hills for a long time.
