JORHAT: Two truck drivers were arrested and taken into 3 days police custody on Saturday in a connection with the death of another truck driver whose blood stained body was found at the bypass near Malow Ali area on Thursday morning. The body had been identified as that of Sarvesh Kumar of Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh.
A case No 172/2023 has been registered at Jorhat police station and the duo have been booked under Section 302 IPC for murder, a non bailable warrant.
The two truck drivers who were identified as Ashish Kumar Batton and Ashok Kumar were both from, Kanpur district, UP and were arrested from Tezpur and Misa, respectively on Friday night.
Preliminary enquiry had revealed that on Wednesday night the deceased had consumed alcohol along with the two drivers at the said place but that now the two drivers were not found at the site.

The duo reportedly told the police that Sarvesh had been accidentally killed when they had reversed the truck and he had got crushed under the back wheel. In order to cover up they had moved the body to another place so that it would look like a hit and run case by some other vehicle. They further said that they had cleaned up the spot where Sarvesh had come under their wheel.
