GUWAHATI, June 28: In a historic move, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) has chosen New Delhi as the host city for its Global Board, General Assembly, and International Conference, marking the first time in the organisation’s 128-year history that it will take place in India. The decision was unanimously approved by the ICA Board during a meeting in Brussels, following a proposal by Dr U S Awasthi, Managing Director of the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO).
Notably, the ICA represents more than 310 cooperative organisations from 107 countries worldwide, making this event a significant milestone for Indian cooperatives and a testament to their growing influence on the global stage. The event, scheduled for June 2024, aims to bring together leaders from ICA member organisations to share experiences, foster collaborations, and make important decisions that will shape the future of cooperatives.
As India prepares to welcome cooperative leaders from around the world, the ICA General Assembly in New Delhi will serve as a platform to showcase the democratic and solidary nature of cooperative organisations. The event is expected to strengthen ties between Indian cooperatives and their international counterparts and further promote cooperation for the betterment of societies.
