NAGAON, July 3: In a significant development, the Nagaon police have apprehended Rintu Hazarika, a resident of Barhampur Putoni area, on charges of fraudulent activities involving the collection of cash from numerous unemployed youths in the district. The arrest took place last Sunday when a team from the Nagaon police station caught Hazarika red-handed, accepting a sum of Rs 10,000 from one Himanshu Dutta residing in the Nonoi area.

According to sources, Hazarika posed as a close associate of a local BJP MLA and a prominent BJP minister, deceiving unemployed youths from the greater Nonoi area. Allegedly, he enticed them with promises of securing government jobs in various departments, resulting in the collection of several lakhs of rupees from unsuspecting victims.

The investigation revealed that Hazarika recently provided a forged Grade IV appointment letter to Abdul Manan, a resident of Nonoi Koshupit area, who subsequently filed a complaint at the Nagaon police station. Additionally, other victims, such as Dipak Das and Baishisthya Konwar from Nonoi area, reported that Hazarika had collected Rs 2,00,000 and Rs 70,000 respectively from them in previous months, leading them to file separate cases at the Nagaon PS.
