ANINI, July 7: In a major boost to agricultural extension services in the remote Dibang Valley district, Anini MLA Mopi Mihu on Monday handed over a Bolero pickup vehicle and a soil testing kit to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Anini.
The handover ceremony was held in the presence of Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Bekir Nyorak.
According to an official statement, the initiative is aimed at enhancing mobility and improving field-level outreach by the KVK team, which plays a crucial role in disseminating agricultural knowledge, conducting training programmes, and delivering farming inputs across the far-flung villages of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Mopi Mihu said the Bolero vehicle will serve as a critical logistical asset for the KVK, significantly improving its capacity to reach farmers in difficult terrain and ensure timely delivery of services.
“This will help the KVK team in conducting regular field visits, implementing government schemes, and empowering local farmers with practical agricultural solutions,” he added.
Dr Tsedar Wangmu, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Anini, expressed gratitude to the MLA for the contribution.
She stated that the gesture reflects a strong commitment to grassroots agricultural development and will directly benefit farmers in the district by improving access to extension services.
“This support is expected to significantly enhance the operational efficiency of our team and the overall impact of our ongoing agricultural initiatives,” she said.
In another important development, the formal handover of a soil testing kit will pave the way for the establishment of the first soil testing mini-laboratory in Anini.
The mini-lab will allow farmers to assess soil health parameters, including pH levels and nutrient composition, at the local level.
Officials said this initiative is expected to promote precision farming practices in the district.
The availability of on-site soil diagnostics will enable farmers to make informed decisions regarding the application of fertilisers, reduce input costs, and boost overall crop productivity.
The soil testing facility is expected to become an integral part of sustainable agriculture in Dibang Valley, particularly given the region’s topographic challenges and limited access to laboratory infrastructure.
KVK officials said the twin initiatives—the vehicle and the soil testing kit—will go a long way in transforming local agriculture by bridging service gaps, improving farmer outreach, and supporting knowledge-driven farming practices.
