ITANAGAR, July 15: The Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank (APRB) formally inaugurated its new branch at Lemmi in Pakke Kessang district, marking the commencement of formal banking services in the district.
The event, hailed as a significant milestone, was met with widespread appreciation from the local population, many of whom had long awaited such access to financial facilities in their area.
Health & Family Welfare Minister and local MLA Biyuram Wahge inaugurated the branch in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Bani Lego, ZPM Naya Tana, senior district officials, public leaders, and representatives of APRB.
According to an official statement, Minister Wahge expressed his satisfaction at the launch of the banking facility and highlighted the challenges people had faced in the past.
“Earlier, residents had to travel long distances to avail basic banking services, often to Sagalee, Seijosa, Seppa, or even the state capital. The opening of this branch brings essential financial services to our doorstep,” Wahge said.
The Minister emphasised that the presence of the bank in the district would significantly contribute to financial inclusion, making banking more accessible to rural residents.
“This is a major step forward. The people of Pakke Kessang can now manage their banking needs without leaving the district,” he added.
Although the branch began operations on May 13, Sunday’s ceremony marked its official inauguration. Wahge also shared that over 300 accounts had already been opened at the branch, reflecting the strong response and interest from the local community.
“I too have opened an account today,” he said, underlining his support for the new facility.
Officials from APRB stated that the bank aims to strengthen financial literacy and expand rural credit access in the region.
The local administration, meanwhile, assured all necessary cooperation to ensure the bank’s smooth operation and reach among the public.
