Dree Festival celebrated with traditional fervour in Daporijo

NAMSAI, July 6: The Apatani community of Upper Subansiri district, particularly in Daporijo, celebrated the Dree Festival 2025 with traditional enthusiasm and cultural pride at the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow in Daporijo.

The festival, which signifies prayers for a pest-free season and a bumper harvest, was marked by vibrant performances and wide community participation.

According to an official statement, the celebration was graced by local MLA and Adviser to the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Er Taniya Soki, as chief guest, while superintendent of police Mridul (IPS) attended as guest of honour.

The event saw the presence of Apatani elders, heads of departments, panchayat leaders, and members of the general public.

The festivities were spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo, accompanied by his spouse Smti Tasso Gambo Sumpi, who served as Patron.

The organising team was led by Chairman Er Dani Tassang and General Secretary Gyati Nobin.

Prominent members of the Apatani community attended the event, including Er Nani Chailyang, SE, PWD, and his spouse Nani Chailyang Aja, ADC Kodako Myobia Tai, Circle Officer of Limeking & Taksing Tasso Duri, DSO Duyu Lampung, and T O Tasso Anda, along with various officials and community members posted in Upper Subansiri.

The celebration featured a range of cultural performances, from traditional folk dances to modern renditions, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Apatani people.

The event concluded with the customary exchange of Hempio Dree among participants, symbolising goodwill and community bonding.
