Police seize suspected heroin in targeted NDPS raid at Naharlagun; one arrested

NAHARLAGUN, July 1: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics, a police team in Naharlagun arrested a 23-year-old man and seized suspected heroin during a targeted operation conducted at Damsite on Monday afternoon.

The operation, launched based on specific intelligence inputs, led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of suspected narcotic substances.

According to an official statement issued by the Arunachal Pradesh Police, the raid was carried out by a team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, with support from Sub-Inspector Niri Rama, Constables Sanu T Raaj and Likha Akin, and Lady Head Constable Nime Taba.

The operation was conducted under the close supervision of SDPO Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo, APPS.

The team moved swiftly to the location following credible information regarding possession and possible distribution of contraband.

During the raid, the police apprehended a suspect identified as Techi Lala, a resident of Rakap Village in Papumpare District.

A personal search was carried out in compliance with Section 50 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the presence of Executive Magistrate Khoda Bath.

The search yielded a used syringe, an empty vial, and a half-used plastic vial containing suspected heroin.

Further inspection of the suspect’s vehicle, a two-wheeler bearing registration number AR 01J/2244, led to the recovery of 15 additional plastic vials hidden beneath the seat.

These vials, containing suspected heroin, collectively weighed approximately 18.8 grams including the plastic containers.

Following the seizure, a case was formally registered at the Naharlagun Police Station under Sections 21(b), 27, and 29 of the NDPS Act, vide Case No. NLG/PS/C/No. 85/25.

The accused has been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Commenting on the arrest, Superintendent of Police Dr. Nyelam Nega, APPS, reaffirmed the department’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region. He called upon citizens to remain alert and extend cooperation to law enforcement authorities in their efforts to build a drug-free society.

The police have urged the public to continue sharing information that can aid in identifying and cracking down on drug-related activities, assuring that confidentiality and prompt action will be maintained in all such cases.
