SIANG, Nov 2: A one-day Legal Awareness Programme was organised by the Adi Bane Ane Kebang (ABAK) and sponsored by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), Itanagar at Riga, Siang District. The event focused on social and legal issues under the theme “POCSO, Foundation and Elementary Education, Safeguard and Uplift of Widowed, Destitute and Abandoned Women and Drug Abuse and Its Impact on Society.”
The programme began with an address by Oming Jamoh Pertin, vice president of ABAK, highlighting its aims and objectives. Sessions covered topics such as strengthening elementary education, protection of widowed and destitute women, drug abuse and the role of POCSO in child protection.
Eminent speakers included Taram Mize District Adult Education Officer, Adv Techi Nikhi Yab, Joya Tasung Moyong General Secretary of WASE and Tamuk Talom Public Representative from Riga. Yamek Mize Taggu ABAK president, spoke on the social impact of gambling and emphasised government welfare schemes for women, including Sarkar Aapke Dwar, CM’s Health Card Scheme and SHG programmes.
Yalem Taga Burang, Chairperson of APSCW, addressed women’s empowerment and legal awareness. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Yadam Komut, secretary of ABAK (Siang District Unit). The event saw active participation from women leaders, teachers, students and the public, promoting social responsibility and legal literacy in the community.
