BOLENG, Sept 25: In a major step towards improving healthcare accessibility in remote areas of Siang district, a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) was launched at Boleng on Thursday.
The unit was flagged off jointly by Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperation and Transport Minister Ojing Tasing and Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu in the presence of District Medical Officer Johny Darang, ZPC Oshi Pabin Mibang, administrative officers and heads of offices.

The MMU, a fully equipped medical van, will function as a moving hospital with a dedicated team comprising a doctor, nurse, lab technician, data entry operator and driver.
It will travel across the district to provide free medical consultation, medicines and laboratory services to far-flung villages.
Facilities available include liver and kidney function tests, blood sugar tests, blood grouping and serology tests for HIV, malaria and scrub typhus, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Tasing said the MMU is the first of its kind in Siang district and is expected to benefit patients who are unable to reach hospitals or health centres.
He urged villagers to make use of the facility and also appealed for collective responsibility in ensuring the van’s cleanliness and maintenance for long-term service.
The MMU has been provided under the outreach activities of the National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC), which will fund it for four years.
It will be operated by Siang Rural Development Society, an NGO based in Laimekuri, Dhemaji district of Assam, in coordination with the District Medical Office, Siang.
