119 Primary School Management Committees honoured for excellence

TEZPUR, Feb 26: As part of efforts to strengthen primary education and promote academic excellence, Samagra Shiksha, Sonitpur honoured 119 Primary School Management Committees (SMCs) with certificates of merit and trophies on Wednesday. The awards were selected from 986 primary schools across the district’s four education blocks, based on performance in monitoring infrastructure, supervising the mid-day meal scheme, ensuring regular attendance, and overall involvement in school management.

The award ceremony, held at the conference hall of Rastrabhasa Vidyalaya, began with an address by Krishna Kanta Deka, District Project Officer of Samagra Shiksha. In his inaugural address, District Education Officer Prabhat Das highlighted the importance of recognising SMCs for their consistent role in improving academic standards.

Awards were presented by Bijoy Kandulana, Secretary of the Sonitpur District Adhividya Parishad, along with senior officials including James Aind, Additional District Commissioner in charge of education. Block Elementary Education Officers Nilotjwal Sharma (Gabharu), Pranab Bora (Naduar) and Najima Sultana (Dhekiajuli) were also present. The programme was conducted by Block Resource Coordinator Pranita Medhi with participation from BRPs and CRCCs across the district.

Addressing the gathering, James Aind congratulated the award-winning committees and urged them to maintain momentum, stressing that recognition should inspire stronger efforts to improve academic standards. Nilotjwal Sharma highlighted that active SMC involvement directly benefits students and strengthens the district’s academic ecosystem. The event concluded with a call for all SMCs to continue working collectively to ensure quality education and sustained academic progress in Sonitpur.
