576th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev observed in Morigaon

MORIGAON, Oct 14: The 576th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev was observed by the Morigaon Baruwari Sri Sri Krishna Ras Aru Srimanta Sankardev’s Janmutsab Udjapan Sarbajanin Hari Mandir Samiti here. As in previous years, the committee celebrated the birth anniversary with two days of events. The program commenced with the Ankia Nat ‘Ram Bijoy’, which was inaugurated by Morigaon Municipality’s chairman, Jogesh Tamuli.

The event was attended by Standing Committee secretary Pramod Medhi, Celebration Committee president Rajen Goswami, executive president Hiteswar Bora, and secretary Dilip Hazarika. Former Morigaon MLA Harendra Bora, Assam Sahitya Sabha executive president and senior journalist Ajit Sharma were also present. Following the recitation of Usha Kirtan, Nam Prasang, and Bhagavat, the meeting was conducted by the president of the Standing Committee, Ghankanta Bora. Chief speakers included Morigaon District Sahitya Sabha president Mahendra Shaikia, former president of the Standing Committee Sushil Gohai, and retired district SSA officer Rajen Goswami.

Later, the Late Jonjonali Barua Memorial Stage was lit by Lipika Barua, retired principal of Morigaon Girls’ Higher Secondary School. The event was inaugurated by district commissioner Devashish Sharma, with Morigaon District Journalists Association secretary Jitumoni Nath serving as the chief guest. The program was hosted by Standing Committee secretary Pramod Medhi. Standing Committee president Ghankanta Bora, executive president and prominent poet Harendra Bora, former president Sushil Gohain, social worker Minti Shaikia, and Rinarani Shaikia also attended the event.
