60th Annual Conference of Upper Assam Sumi Baptist Christian Union commences

MARGHERITA, Jan 12: The 60th Annual Conference of the Upper Assam Sumi Baptist Christian Union commenced on Friday at Lalpahar Sumi Village, falling under the 83rd constituency of Margherita in Tinsukia district. The three-day event, which began with an opening prayer by Jogdang Jugli, chairman of Upper Assam Sumi Baptist Christian Union, features various activities promoting brotherhood, peace, and unity among Baptist Christians.

Volunteers and youth marked the opening ceremony with a vibrant dance performance. Reverend Dr Hukashe A Zhimomi, from ES Nagaland Police Baptist Churches Association, delivered a message on Lord Jesus, contributing to the spiritual aspect of the conference.

The conference, scheduled to conclude on January 14, draws Sumi Baptist Christians from neighbouring states such as Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam. Participants from Lalpahar, Paharpur, Longtong, Saleki, Balijan, Kopatali, Tinkupathar, under the Margherita sub-division of Tinsukia district, along with people from various backgrounds, irrespective of caste, creed, race, language, and religion, gather at the Annual Conference.

Kahoto Sema, president of the All Assam Sema Naga Council, highlighted the significance of the 60th Annual Conference, emphasising its annual role in fostering brotherhood, peace, and unity among Baptist Christians, bringing them together under one roof.
