DIPHU, Feb 5: Lokhimon Dharma celebrated the 66th Lokhimon Karcho, commemorating the birth of the Lokhimon faith. The Lokhimon Karcho was celebrated in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi, as well as in other districts of Assam and in Arunachal Pradesh where there is a concentration of Karbi population.
Lokhimon Karcho is celebrated every year for five days, starting on February 3 to 7. It was on this day, February 5, 1995, that the Lokhimon faith was founded by Lokhon Engti Hensek at Bapuram Tokbi village, Dolamora, in Karbi Anglong district. In 66 years, Lokhimon faith has spread to various parts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and in other districts of Assam, such as Tezpur, Sonitpur, and North Lakhimpur, as well as in Arunachal Pradesh. It has its four ashrams at Bapuram Tokbi village, Dolamora; Japralangso, Rongnagar in Bakulia, and at Kokila in Arunachal Pradesh. These ashrams are called Dovan Longri Amei.
In the morning, the religious festivity started at home with the cleaning and washing of knives, other tools, and vehicles. After applying red vermilion, children seek blessings from their parents.
At Inglongchingri Lokhimon temple – adovan at Inglongchingri, Diphu, the faithful, along with children dressed in religious attire, participated in prayer and chanting of Hemphu Lokhimon. Men and women brought fruits and edible items for offering in the temple. The religious flag on top of the temple was replaced with a new one. In every home in the morning, the religious flag placed on top of the house or in front of the gate was replaced with new ones.
At 10 am, kirtan was held. Kangthir methek – jogyo was performed by priests, followed by the lighting of earthen lamps. Edible items were offered to the temple priests. Devotees went around in a circle, dancing and clapping their hands, singing religious songs, and chanting the name of Hemphu Lokhimon.
