DIPHU, Feb 5: Lokhimon Karcho commemorating the 67th foundation day of Lokhimon faith was celebrated in Karbi Anglong and in other districts of Assam on Wednesday.
It is a five day religious event starting from February 3 to 7. The religion was founded on February 5, 1995 by priest Lokhon Engti Hensek with its main centre located at Bapuram Tokbi village, No 2 Dolamara in Karbi Anglong.
Within 30 years from its inception the religion has spread to different parts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong and to other districts of the state like in Tezpur, North Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and in Arunachal Pradesh.
There are 114 Lokhimon adovan (temples) with more than 1 lakh believers. There are four ashrams: the first is at No 2 Dolamara, near Bapuram Tokbi village, second at Japralangso, third at Kokila, Arunachal Pradesh and fourth is at Rongnagar, Bakulia. The Asharams are also called as Dovan Longri Anei.
The celebration started in the morning at home by lighting lamps and cleaning up the kitchen and utensils, agriculture tools and vehicles by sprinkling basil leaves and dipped water.
At Rengsajir Lokhimon adovan and unlike other days everyone was seen dressed in their religious attire. The married men and women were dressed in green and yellow garments, while the unmarried boys and girls including children were dressed in their white attire symbolising purity. The devotees would take from home prepared edible items made out of rice, sweets and fruits to the temple to be offered to the priest.
The morning devotion was conducted with songs and prayers. Kangthir methek was performed, where the priest burns the holy fire and the faithful revolve around it chanting the name of Hemphu Lokhimon through songs and musical instruments.
Participating in the celebration at Rengsajir Lokhimon Adovan, 5 miles, Lumding Road, here, was member of autonomous council (MAC) of Lumbajong MAC constituency, Johny Timung, who himself is a devotee of Lokhimon. He said, “For us February 5 is an important date as on this particular day the Lokhimon religion was established. It is a four day celebration and on the third day ie February 5 we come together to talk about our beliefs and to worship and celebrate together.” “I convey my greetings to all on this auspicious occasion of Lokhimon karcho and may Hemphu Lokhimon bless us abundantly. Let our land prevail peace and development.” There are 82 houses of Lokhimon faith under Rengsajir Lokhimon adovan.
At Inglongchingri Lokhimon adovan more than 500 devotees participated in the celebration. Devotees brought from home sweets, fruits and other edible items to be offered to the priest. The whole congregation participated in kangthir methek, kero karcho – worship to invoke the blessings of Hemphu Lokhimon. Assistant secretary of Inglongchingri Lokhimon Adovan, Sarsing Timung stated Lokhimon religion was founded by priest Lokhon Engti Hensek with the princples of love for all living beings. The religion emerged from the Karbi community, which has been accepted by many people.
