DIBRUGARH, Jan 12: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) expressed dissatisfaction with the sluggish pace of the Dibrugarh-Moran four-lane project, submitting a memorandum to the general manager of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
AASU alleged that the lackadaisical attitude of NHIDCL authorities has led to the project’s slow progress. Accusing NHIDCL officials of involvement in commission systems, Abani Kumar Gogoi, the general secretary of AASU, Dibrugarh, said that the prolonged delay has resulted in frequent accidents in the area.
Gogoi stated, “Nine years have passed, but the Dibrugarh-Moran four-lane work has been progressing slowly, leading to numerous accidents. We are giving a seven-day ultimatum to NHIDCL, and if work doesn’t commence promptly, we will launch a stir against NHIDCL.”
He also highlighted a past instance in 2018 when NHIDCL had to serve notices to two construction companies due to the delayed progress of national highway four-laning works. The AASU urged the concerned department to expedite the project to enhance road safety and prevent further mishaps in the region.
