ABSU demands full upgradation of Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 25: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has expressed serious concern over the notice served for the shutdown of Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra by March 31 next and demanded full upgradation of the Kendra with modern equipment facilities.

A 9-member delegation team of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) led by its president Dipen Boro on Saturday visited the Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra at Bhotgaon in Kokrajhar to take stock about the prevailing situation.

The ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt of India recently served a notice to shut down several Doordarshan Kendras across the country by March 31 next.

The ABSU delegation met officials and staff of the Doordarshan Kendra.

The students’ union demanded full upgradation of Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra in days to come.

ABSU president Dipen Boro said that Doordarshan Kendra is a heritage of the region where peoples from different communities are getting opportunities to present culture, language, literary activities and social integration.

Boro said that former Union home minister and now defence minister Rajnath Singh had assured for upgradation of Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra and Radio centre with modern equipment in 2019 along with the declaration of Aronai Express train across the country to make a healthy welfare and development in the region.

He has urged the state and centre government to make proper upgradation of the Doordarshan Kendra Kokrajhar to extend render services in days to come.

Boro informed that the ABSU delegation team will meet the central government to discuss the upgradation of the Doordarshan Kendra Kokrajhar in October.
