KOKRAJHAR, June 17: The Adhyasradha ceremony of late Phanin Boro, noted social worker and senior leader of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), was held at his native village Borlechiagaon near Bijni in Chirang district on Wednesday.
Phanin Boro, a former speaker of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and president of the Bijni district committee of the UPPL, passed away on June 1 after a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Chirang district.
A memorial meeting and open discussion on his life and contributions to society were organised as part of the observance.
Speakers recalled his dedicated service to the Bodo community and his efforts towards social welfare and development.
A commemorative souvenir was also released on the occasion in the presence of community leaders, well-wishers and local residents.
Among those who attended the programme were Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro, Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary, former minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, ABSU president Khwrwmdao Wary and ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary, among others.
The event was organised by a committee headed by former MLA Kamalsingh Narzary.
Addressing the gathering, Pramod Boro described the late leader as a dedicated and selfless individual who worked tirelessly for the welfare and upliftment of the Bodo community.
He said Phanin Boro consistently championed social causes and remained committed to promoting unity and development in the region.
“His dedication and contribution to the welfare of our people will continue to inspire future generations. With his passing, society has lost a respected and committed personality,” Boro said.
ABSU president Khwrwmdao Wary also paid tribute to the departed leader, recalling his role as a former speaker of the student body and his active involvement in various social and community initiatives.
He said the contributions and sacrifices made by Phanin Boro would be remembered by the organisation and the community for years to come.
Leaders, well-wishers and members of the public from different organisations and political parties paid floral tributes and offered condolences to the bereaved family during the programme.
