JORHAT, April 3: Ajanta Neog, the minister of Finance, Women and Child Development, and the guardian minister of Jorhat district, addressed a series of poll rallies across the Jorhat Assembly segment of the parliamentary constituency on Wednesday.
The two main contestants in the fray are the sitting Lok Sabha MPs – Topon Kumar Gogoi (Jorhat) and Gaurav Gogoi (Kaliabor, now renamed Kaziranga). They have been campaigning across the Lok Sabha constituency since their names were announced by the respective parties, holding a series of rallies, including motorbike rallies, processions, visiting cultural and religious places, and holding interactions.
During her addresses, Neog emphasised the national sentiment rallying behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a third term to continue the journey of development and progress initiated under his leadership in 2014. She highlighted the significant transformations witnessed across the country, including Assam’s progress under the BJP-led government, signaling strong support for BJP candidates in recent state elections.
Neog also mentioned that her campaign tours in Mariani and Teok Assembly seats under the Jorhat parliamentary constituency indicated a substantial victory for Topon Gogoi.
Meanwhile, Gaurav Gogoi visited Majuli river island on Wednesday and toured across the Brahmaputra island LAC for the second time following his earlier visit about a fortnight ago.
After the delimitation of constituencies exercise carried out last year by the Election Commission of India, the Majuli LAC, which was earlier a part of Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat, has been included as a segment of the Jorhat parliamentary constituency.
Gaurav Gogoi expressed optimism about getting the mandate of the people, noting the visible excitement and the outpouring of love and support from the people.
