MARGHERITA, Nov 14: The Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Margherita Regional Committee on Thursday commenced a 31-hour hunger strike at North Margherita Rangamancha, demanding the appointment of a pediatrician at Margherita Civil Hospital.

The protest is in response to the long-standing issue of the hospital’s failure to provide a permanent pediatrician, despite the large population in Margherita co-district.

Bimal Singh, president of the Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Margherita Regional Committee, expressed concern over the lack of medical care for children in the area, saying, “With over 360,000 people living in the 83 Margherita constituency and more than 1,000 patients visiting Margherita Civil Hospital regularly, it is shocking that no pediatrician has been appointed for many years.”

Bimal Singh also mentioned that multiple memorandums have been submitted to the Margherita co-district commissioner and MLA Bhaskar Sharma, but no action has been taken.

The Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Margherita Regional Committee warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, they will intensify their protests in the region.
