NAGAON, April 5: The Nagaon district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a protest against the rising prices of petroleum products as well as other essential commodities across the state in front of the office of deputy commissioner’s office in Nagaon on Tuesday.
Over a hundred protesters from the students’ organisation participated in the demonstration and reverberated the air of the small town with various slogans and strongly criticised the saffron led Union government at the centre and BJP led alliance government in the state for failure in controlling the prices of those petroleum products as well as other essential commodities in the market.
The leadership of the district body of the organisation also criticised the role of the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying that the saffron party snatched up the reins of power with an electoral promise to save the ‘Jati, Mati aru Bheti’ of the indigenous Assamese people. But after being voted to power, the same leader of the ruling party turned a deaf ear towards the burning issues of those indigenous people of the state, the leadership of the district unit alleged.
The organisation also warned that it would intensify massive protests in the days to come if the government fails to control the prices of petroleum products as well as other essential commodities in the state.
Following the demonstration, the agitators of the organisation submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the deputy commissioner, Nagaon.
Central publicity secretary Pabin Chandra Das, district president and secretary of the organisation respectively Deepmoni Bora and Pragjyoti Bonia, adviser Diganta Das and Mahendra Kalita were among the participants who carried out the demonstration on Tuesday, a release added.

DIBRUGARH: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in Dibrugarh against the skyrocketing price of fuel and other essential commodities in the state.
The protesters led by AJYCP Dibrugarh district president Priyabrat Gohain took out a rally to the deputy commissioner’s office. Holding banners and placards, the AJYCP members raised slogans against the BJP government for failing to curb soaring prices of fuel and other essential commodities in the state.
The agitators came down heavily on the Centre for failing to curb rising fuel prices and accused them of being a mute spectator in the present situation.
They also accused chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of being oblivious to the sufferings of the common people. The organisation further threatened to launch a series of intensive agitations across the state if the government doesn’t initiate steps to control the prices of fuel and other daily needs.
“We demand the immediate intervention of the Centre in checking the skyrocketing price of petrol and diesel. The prices of essential commodities too have shot through the roof due to the rise in fuel price. The common man is being hit hard and they are struggling to survive. The BJP came to power promising good days for the people but they have systematically destroyed the middle and lower class by their anti-people policies. Prices need to come down soon or else there will be huge agitations across the state,” AJYCP DIbrugarh district president Priyabrat Gohain said.
