NAGAON, July 6: The district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a symbolic protest at Nagaon Natoon Bazar, criticising the state Food and Supply department for its failure to control the unabated increase in prices of essential commodities and petroleum products. The protest took place at the district office premises.
Over a hundred agitators from the youth organisation participated in the stir and strongly criticised both the concerned department and the government. During the protest, they carried out a funeral procession of the state Food and Civil Supply department and raised slogans against it and the government.
Pragjyotish Bonia, the president, and Debashish Das, the secretary of the organisation, stated in a press note that the prices of essential commodities have been continuously rising, and the government has not taken adequate measures to bring them back to affordable levels. They condemned the top officials of the food and supply department for their inaction in curbing the price hike.
AJYCP urged the chief minister to take effective measures to reduce the prices of essential commodities in the state. The protest saw the participation of Deepmoni Bora, organising secretary of the central body of AJYCP, and Diganta Das, central publicity secretary.
Our Jorhat correspondent adds: The Jorhat district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) carried out a procession as part of a state-wide protest against the rising prices of essential commodities and what they perceive as the government’s failure to address the issue. The protesters, holding banners and placards and carrying a symbolic dead body representing the Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, raised slogans against the department and its minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
During the demonstration in front of the Jorhat deputy commissioner’s office complex, the protesters criticised the government at the Centre and in Assam. They recalled that BJP leaders had previously used symbolic protests, such as wearing garlands of onions, bringing LPG cylinders, and using bullock-carts during the UPA government’s tenure, to highlight the issue of price rise. The protesters pointed out that the same party, which has been in power for two consecutive terms at the Centre and in the state, has now seemingly turned a blind eye to the rising prices of essential commodities.
Our Dibrugarh correspondent adds: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a mock funeral rally in Dibrugarh on Thursday, targeting the government’s failure to control the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.
The rally, organised by AJYCP, began at their party office and proceeded through the streets of Dibrugarh. Participants shouted slogans against the government, expressing their discontent with its inability to address the issue of price rise.
“The government has failed to control the price rise, which has adversely affected the lives of the people. The steep increase in the prices of essential commodities has burdened the common people. The government, which promised ‘Accha Din’ (good days) during their election campaign, has turned those promises into the worst days,” said Udayan Baruah, the district president of AJYCP.
He further criticised Food and Civil Supply minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass for his inability to control the rising prices. Baruah highlighted the soaring prices of LPG cylinders and petroleum products, which have put additional financial strain on the common people.
The mock funeral rally aimed to draw attention to the growing concerns of the public regarding the uncontrolled price rise of essential goods and the government’s alleged failure to address the issue effectively.
