JORHAT, Jan 11: The Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Asom, Jorhat district unit, has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, outlining a comprehensive five-point charter of demands, including regular scholarships for SC community students and rectification of irregularities in SC certificate issuance.

Addressing concerns over the Mission Bhumiputra Portal’s alleged flaws in issuing Schedule Caste (SC) certificates; the students’ body urged the government to streamline the process for genuine applicants.

Additionally, the demand encompasses the filling of approximately 20,000 backlog posts as per the community’s reservation policy and the provision of autonomy for SC community welfare and progress.

The SC students’ body further calls for the annulment of a state government cabinet decision regarding the promotion of officials and employees from the SC community, advocating a return to the previous policy.

A student leader highlighted persistent efforts over the years to press for the community’s development, citing multiple protests staged since April last year.
