DIBRUGARH, Sept 18: Dr Prashanta Dihingia, senior professor in the Department of Medicine at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), has been elected as a member of the Teachers’ Council of the Association of Physicians of India (API), bringing laurels to Assam and Dibrugarh.
Dr Dihingia secured the third-highest number of votes in the election to the academic council of the API, a prestigious national body of physicians.

For many years, Dr Dihingia has held significant positions in both the Dibrugarh and Assam branches of the API.
He also served successfully as Superintendent of Assam Medical College for the past four years.
“I am happy to be elected as a member of the API from Assam. Many doctors from other states supported me, and I thank everyone for their encouragement,” he said.
AMCH principal Dr Sanjib Kakati, API Assam branch president Dr Anup Kumar Das, secretary Dr Pritam Barthakur, API Headquarters general secretary Dr Anupam Dutta, API Dibrugarh branch president Dr AK Pegu, secretary Dr Rashi Shyam, senior professor of Cardiology at AMC Dr Mriganka Sekhar Chaliha, and many other doctors extended their congratulations.
This is the first time a doctor from the Northeast has been elected to the Teachers’ Council, a development welcomed by teachers and doctors of Assam Medical College, particularly the Department of Medicine.
