Tinsukia, Dec 27: In a joint operation by Assam Police and Assam Rifles on December 27, two hardcore militants of United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) were nabbed in Tinsukia district of Assam.
The arrested militants, Bibek Asom and Mrigen Asom, were apprehended from Faneng, located near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. Bibek Asom, also known as Bastab Phukan, joined the banned militant group in 2011 and was nabbed from Upper Faneng in Lekhapani.
Security activities were intensified in Tinsukia following a grenade explosion near an army camp in Dirak on November 22, for which ULFA-I claimed responsibility. The group also admitted to two more grenade attacks near security installations in Sivasagar and Jorhat. Earlier, an individual was arrested in connection to the Tinsukia explosion.
