Guwahati, Feb 23: Two opposition MLAs from the Assam Legislative Assembly, Congress Baghbor MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed and AIUDF MLA Ashraful Ahmed, were suspended briefly on Friday.
The suspension was imposed after they defied the Speaker’s orders and continued to raise issues concerning irregularities in the education department. Sherman Ali Ahmed was suspended during a Calling Attention session for highlighting ‘severe irregularities’ in the ‘Gunotsav’ school evaluation system.
He was suspended after criticizing the state government and alleging that a chowkidar had impersonated a school teacher in Mandia, Barpeta district.
Despite receiving a response from Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Ahmed continued his criticism and demanded accountability, resulting in his suspension by Speaker Biswajit Daimary. Ashraful Ahmed protested the Speaker’s order, questioning the reason behind the suspension while a critical issue was being discussed.
In response, Daimary suspended him as well. Both MLAs were escorted out of the hall by House Marshals.
