Guwahati, 17 Oct: Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) launched the ‘Great Assam School Shakeout Programme (GASSP) 2025’ on Thursday to strengthen disaster preparedness in schools. The initiative, introduced on International Shakeout Day, was organised in partnership with the state’s Department of School Education and UNICEF Assam. It aligns with the National School Safety Policy (NDMA, 2016) and the Assam DRR Roadmap 2030, aiming to institutionalise school safety measures across the state.
The launch event featured animation videos on disaster preparedness and informational booklets on earthquake and fire safety. Volunteer kits were distributed to District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) representatives to facilitate the programme’s implementation. The kits will support school-level coordination and ensure uniform adherence to safety protocols during the drills.
