Assam: Police Bullet Injures Escapee Drug Peddler

DIPHU, April 19: One Nur Uddin (46), accused of drug trafficking has been treated at Diphu Medical College & Hospital after he received a bullet injury on his leg as he tried to flee from police.

Sources said the accused Nur was apprehended after police recovered 10 soap cases of heroin weighing 100 grams at Khatkhati on Monday.

During the interrogation, he told police that his co-accused is in Dimapur. Based on his statement Khatkhati police team led by OC proceeded to Dimapur to arrest another drug peddler.

While proceeding to Dimapur, on a turning at Gautam Basti on NH- 39, Nur attacked the police team and tried to snatch the service pistol of a policeman as the vehicle slowed down. He managed to get down from the vehicle. Police tried to stop him but instead, one of the policemen was assaulted.

As Nur ran towards the jungle inside Laharijan Tea Estate the police fired in the air to stop him. But as he did not stop the police fired a round which injured him on his leg. He was immediately taken to Bokajan Community Health Centre for treatment and was later referred to Diphu Medical College & Hospital.
