Assam: Police Recover Morphine In Bokajan

BOKAJAN: Morphine worth Rs 6 crore were recovered by the police in Karbi Anglong and two persons were arrested in this connection. On a tip-off, the Golaghat and Karbi Anglong police launched an operation at Khakrajan checkpost under the Barpathar police station in Karbi Anglong.

The police intercepted a Mahindra XUV 500 SUV bearing registration number AS 01 BD 2314. On a thorough search, morphine weighing 1.850 kg was found hidden in the spare wheel of the vehicle. In this connection the following two persons were arrested – Akum Chang (59), son of late Thongbong, resident of Rongmei Colony, under East Police Station, Dimapur and Ongbou Chang (45), son of Cholen Chang, resident of Borlengri, Block 1, under Khatkhati police station, Karbi Anglong district.

In another success of the police in Karbi Anglong, on November 14 at about 4:46 pm during a routine naka checking on NH 36 at Dillai Tiniali under Dillai police station brown sugar was recovered from a car.

One Maruti Suzuki Eeco car bearing registration number MN 06 LX 1848 coming from Manipur and heading towards Manja in Karbi Anglong was intercepted. On thoroughly searching the car 22 identical soap cases containing suspected brown sugar were found concealed inside both rear door panels. The contraband weighs 269.43 grams.
