GUWAHATI, June 23: Assam Police conducted a successful operation in the Churaibari region of Karimganj district, seizing cannabis valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the police intercepted a truck with registration number HP-17E-9474, suspected to be transporting illegal substances. During the search, authorities discovered 94 packets of ganja weighing around 8.6 kg hidden in a secret compartment of the vehicle. One individual, identified as Amit Kumar from Himachal Pradesh, was detained in connection with the case. The truck, originating from Agartala, Tripura and bound for Bihar, was involved in the illegal transportation.
Karimganj Police officer Pranab Mili stated, “We have initiated legal proceedings and are conducting further investigations to ascertain the source, destination, and individuals associated with this illegal activity.”
In a separate incident on Saturday, Assam Police also seized a significant quantity of heroin valued at Rs 5 crore in Cachar district. A 24-year-old man named Sirukuddin Laskar was apprehended along with 47 soap cases containing approximately 974 grams of heroin.
Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police, Cachar district, commented, “The market value of the seized heroin is estimated to be around Rs 3 crore. The individual was operating an autorickshaw with registration number AS-11EC-4513.”
Earlier this week, Assam Police made headlines in Udalguri district by apprehending two individuals and seizing a substantial cache of illegal arms and ammunition.
