Karimganj, April 8: A shooting incident that occurred in Karimganj district, Assam, on Monday, has caused widespread unrest in the area. Reports suggest that the incident took place in Balia-Achhanala village, under the jurisdiction of Nilam Bazaar Police Station.
The incident has resulted in severe injuries to several people, including women and children, who have been rushed to Silchar Medical College Hospital for immediate medical attention.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident is an outcome of a longstanding dispute among the villagers, including Abul Kalam, Hasan Ahmed, and Khayrul Islam. Accusations have been leveled against Hasan Ahmed for allegedly firing at four individuals.
The injured, including Abul Kalam, Hasan Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed, and Safiya Begum, were initially taken to Nilam Bazaar Primary Health Center, but due to their critical condition, they were referred to SMCH.
Officer-in-Charge of Nilam Bazaar Police Station, Deep Jyoti Malakar, along with a team of officers, has reached the spot to investigate the incident. The police have seized several air guns from the village to prevent further violence.
