JORHAT, Feb 6: A team of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing of Assam Police on Wednesday arrested Siba Prasad Saikia, an assistant engineer at the Central Jorhat Development Block at Sipahikhula, near Teok here when he reportedly accepted a bribe from a complainant for clearing MGNREGA bills.
According to an official source, Saikia had allegedly demanded Rs 15000 from a person for clearing his bills following which a complaint was lodged by the person with the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption cell of the state police and subsequently a trap was laid.
Saikia was caught red-handed while accepting the demanded bribe from the complainant at the Central Block Development office.
A case (Number: 12/2025) has been registered in ACB Police Station under Section 7 (a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in this regard and necessary legal action initiated.
