BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 18: An awareness programme on admission to various courses of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) for the academic session 2025–2026 was held at Biswanath College on Friday.
The event was attended by KKHSOU Vice Chancellor Professor Rajendra Prasad Das as Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Das emphasized the university’s mission to extend access to higher education across Assam, ensuring that no youth is deprived of academic opportunities.
He urged participants to encourage eligible learners, particularly those unable to pursue education in the regular mode, to enrol in KKHSOU and continue their studies.
Biswanath College Principal and Centre-in-Charge of the KKHSOU Study Centre, Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the university’s role in supporting youth and working professionals who face challenges in accessing conventional education.
Professor Pranab Saikia, Dean of KKHSOU, elaborated on the university’s academic structure, regulations, and the wide range of courses offered.
He noted that KKHSOU is the first open university in the region to adopt the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme under the National Education Policy 2020.
Kokil Hazarika, President of the Biswanath College Governing Body, lauded the university’s efforts since its inception.
Assistant Registrar (Study Centre), KKHSOU, Birinchi Borah, introduced the event and outlined the support mechanisms available at study centres.
Dr Naresh Thakur, Coordinator of the Biswanath College KKHSOU Study Centre, delivered the vote of thanks.
Over 150 people participated in the programme, including Apurba Das, President of the Biswanath College Alumni Association, learners and alumni of KKHSOU, NCC cadets of Biswanath College, students and office bearers of the college’s students’ union, and members of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
The event also witnessed the presence of local education heads, teachers, the President of Biswanath Chariali Nagarik Santha, the Secretary of All Assam Mohila Kobi Mancha, members of Biswanath Chariali Lekhika Santha, leaders from the Biswanath Zila and Chariali Anchalik units of AASU, and representatives from the Biswanath Zila Journalist Association and the Biswanath Chariali Press Club.
