TEZPUR, July 7: Retired professor of Nowgong Girls’ College, Bhanu Padmapati handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh as contribution to the CM’s Relief Fund through Sonitpur deputy commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra.
Keeping her health conditions in mind, the deputy commissioner visited her house at Baroholia in Tezpur and collected the cheque from her in person.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke to the eminent educationist via video call and expressed his gratitude for her generous contribution from her pension towards such a noble cause.
Born on September 3, 1936, Padmapati completed her post-graduation in Economics from Gauhati University and retired from Nowgong Girls’ College in 1996. A multi-faceted personality, she is also renowned in the field of sports and is a receiver of the prestigious Sports Pension from the Government of Assam and was also the torch bearer of first Assam Olympic.
Padmapati is also a prominent dramatist and is known to have taken part in several plays alongside stalwarts such as Natasurjya Phani Sarma and Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha.
