Guwahati, April 29: In a troubling development, a faction of young individuals purportedly linked to Bir Lachit Sena is accused of engaging in extortion in Guwahati.
Bhupen Gogoi, the victim, asserts that this group forcibly confiscated his motorcycle and coerced him into giving them Rs 50,000. According to reports, initially, the group demanded a staggering sum of Rs 7 lakh.
Following this ordeal, Gogoi filed a formal complaint with the Dispur police station. The alleged perpetrators of this extortion racket have been identified as Manoj Deka, also known as Manoj Asom, Jayanta Sarma, also known as Jayanta Asom, and Tapan Sarma, also known as Tapan Asom.
Gogoi further alleges that not only did the group intimidate him with threats of violence, but they also attempted to assault him at his rented residence on a prior occasion.
This incident has sparked concerns regarding the misuse of the Bir Lachit Sena’s name for criminal activities, prompting swift action from the Guwahati police to launch an investigation into the matter.
