Body found floating in river in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Nov 13: After six days of intense search operation, the dead body of Diganta Kakoti was found floating in the Brahmaputra at Mohanaghat area in Dibrugarh early in the morning on Monday.

The body has been identified as Diganta Kakoti, who was washed away with along his brother while offering pind daan (offering homage to departed soul) at Mohanaghat on November 8.

“Today, we have found a body floating in the river near the Mohanaghat area. The family members of Diganta Kakoti identified the body,” said an official.

However, his brother Ananta Kakoti remains untraceable even after six days of search operation by the State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force personnel.

According to reports, Diganta had slipped into the water while making offerings their ancestors on the river bank at Mohanaghat on November 8. Seeing this, his younger brother had immediately jumped into the river to rescue him. However, the swift current of the Brahmaputra reportedly swept them away.
