In an official statement, the District Administration informed that a two-day intensive awareness campaign was conducted across all 16 ICDS project areas on July 28 and 29 in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development.

The campaign featured awareness rallies, community dialogues, and legal literacy sessions, with active participation from Anganwadi workers, health staff, educators, panchayat members, police personnel, and youth groups.

The initiative aimed to empower communities through education and collective vigilance.

The district-level awareness meeting, held on July 29 at the DC’s Conference Hall in Silchar, was organised by Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Cachar, in coordination with the district administration and departments such as Education, PNRD, Health, and Social Welfare.

Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav, who chaired the session, urged all stakeholders to take decisive steps against these social evils.

“Human trafficking and witch-hunting are not just legal violations—they are attacks on human dignity. Communities must be empowered to reject superstition and protect every individual’s right to live without fear,” he said.

Additional District Commissioner (WCD) Hemanga Nobis and Assistant Commissioner and In-Charge District Social Welfare Officer Anjali Kumari were also present.

Kumari stressed the need for public awareness to drive long-term behavioural change.

Sub-Inspector Maheshwari Das of the Police Department shared insights into trafficking cases from vulnerable areas of the district, underlining the need for early reporting and strong community-police partnerships.

The campaign concluded with a district-level rally on July 29 that began at the DC’s Office and traversed through major streets of Silchar.

Participants carried placards, distributed informative materials, and interacted with the public to spread awareness.

According to the official statement, the campaign reflects a broader commitment by the Cachar administration to social reform through legal literacy, grassroots mobilisation, and inter-departmental collaboration.
