Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday distributed cheques to 36,367 women beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Asoni (MMMUA) at a grand event held at Mikirbheta playground in Morigaon district.

Addressing the massive gathering, the Chief Minister urged women from Bhurbandha and Kapili blocks to invest the Rs 10,000 grant-in-aid wisely in small-scale businesses to achieve financial independence. He also announced that eligible women will receive Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 in the second and third phases of the scheme in the coming days.
Highlighting the government’s commitment towards women’s empowerment, Dr Sarma said both the central and state BJP governments have taken major steps to strengthen the economic foundation of women through initiatives like the MMMUA. He criticised the previous Congress regime, claiming it failed to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women and instead offered temporary benefits such as clothes and mosquito nets during elections.
The Chief Minister also participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new Mikirbheta State Dispensary building and later inaugurated the historic Charaibahi Committee Bhauna, lauding the organisers for preserving Assam’s traditional cultural heritage.
Additionally, Dr Sarma laid the foundation stone for the new Morigaon Circuit House building, which will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore.
The event was attended by minister Piyush Hazarika, MLAs Kaushik Rai and Ramakanta Deuri, Deputy Commissioner Anamika Tewari, and CEO of Morigaon Zilla Parishad Ananta Kr Gogoi.
