Crackdown on illicit drugs in Margherita

MARGHERITA, Aug 21: An intensified campaign against illicit drugs and contraband is in progress across various areas of the 124th Margherita constituency in Tinsukia district. In a recent operation on Sunday afternoon, Hemanta Kumar Boro, the Margherita sub divisional police officer, and Pratap Gogoi, officer in charge of Margherita, acted on secret information and apprehended three individuals who were allegedly involved in the sale of cannabis (bhang) in the Balukhad area of Margherita.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two men and one woman on charges related to the buying and selling of cannabis. The woman, in particular, was suspected of being involved in the supply of cannabis in various parts of the Margherita sub-division for an extended period. She was apprehended by the Margherita police while attempting to sell cannabis in the Balukhad area. In addition to the arrests, law enforcement seized two kilograms of cannabis from the Dehing Tea Estate area. This seizure adds to the total of 7.167 kilograms of cannabis that has been confiscated by the Margherita police.

The individuals who were apprehended have been identified as Dhruva Chhetri (22) from Dehing Tea Estate in Margherita, Ram Kumar from the Balukhad area in Margherita, and Sukiya Patir (45) from Digboi.

Following their apprehension, all three individuals were taken to the Margherita police station for further questioning.
