MANGALDAI, Nov 4: In preparation for the upcoming Chhath Puja, the Darrang district administration organised a meeting in the District Commissioner’s Auditorium on Monday. Present were district commissioner Parag Kumar Kakati, district superintendent of police Prakash Sonowal, additional commissioner Ashok Sharma, Pub-Mangaldai revenue circle officer Trishna Sharma, Dalgaon revenue circle officer Tanveer Yusuf Ahmed, along with other senior officials, in-charges of all the district’s police stations, and members of various Chhath Puja Committees.

The meeting began with additional commissioner Manas Saikia explaining the purpose of the gathering and welcoming all attendees. District superintendent of police Prakash Sonowal then provided a detailed overview of the necessary precautions to ensure safety at the ghats during the puja. Attendees were also requested to inform the police immediately if any suspicious objects or individuals were noticed.

District commissioner Parag Kumar Kakati suggested that instead of holding separate puja events at multiple locations in Mangaldai, Kharupetia, Panbari, and Dalgaon, the festival would be more impactful if celebrated collectively at a single location in each town. He urged the Puja committees to consider this idea for future celebrations. Additionally, he instructed all Puja committees to arrange adequate lighting at the puja ghats and adhere strictly to other safety norms.

The district commissioner concluded by wishing everyone a happy Chhath Puja.
