Darrang College launches ‘Centre of Performing Arts and Yoga’

TEZPUR, Oct 7: Darrang College inaugurated the first-ever
Centre of Performing Arts and the Darrang College Yoga
Centre in the north belt of the state. Dr Polashmani Saikia,
principal of Darrang College, presided over the inauguration
ceremony.
In his speech, Dr Saikia emphasised Tezpur’s role as a nerve
center of modern culture and how it has given birth to many
talents with inherent qualities. He expressed his hope that
these newly established centers would open new vistas for
exploring possibilities and inherent talents within the
community.
Notable singer and musician Manoj Nath, prominent dancer
Dr Pratibha Sharma, and National Yoga referee Namita Deka
Lahkar have been entrusted with the responsibility of
conducting classes and training in their respective centers. Dr
Arundhati Deka, head of the statistics department,
Sampoorna Khaund from the Economics faculty, and Jindau
Basumatary from the Boro department will supervise these
activities.
The inaugural ceremony was conducted by Dr Swapnali
Kakati, coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of
the college. It was attended by Dr. Khirendra Haloi, Vice
Principal of Darrang College, Dr Manoj Kumar Hazarika from

the Commerce department, along with faculty members and
students from various departments. As part of the program,
Prerona Baishya and Manoj Nath performed Satriya dance
and presented Jyoti Sangeet, respectively.
The establishment of these centers is a significant step in
promoting cultural and physical well-being within the college
community.
