Deomornoi Degree College celebrates freshmen social & merit award ceremony

MANGALDAI, Sept 24: Deomornoi Degree College held its freshmen social cum merit award presentation ceremony recently. On the occasion, Deomornoi Degree College principal Dr Gitali Kalita hoisted the college flag to start the day. Ankur Jyoti Gautam, vice-president of the Students’ Union at Deomornoi Degree College, and Rafikuddin Ahmed, secretary of the Deomornoi AASU unit, then hoisted the AASU flag. The program included a plantation drive led by retired Sipajhar High School and MP School teacher Hiranya Kumar Sarma. Next, Sailen Kumar Rajbongshi, headmaster of Deomornoi Adarsha Vidyalaya, inaugurated the college wall magazine ‘Ramdhenu’, signifying the value of students’ creative expression.

A ceremony to greet the freshmen was also conducted. Mahendra Kataki, the college governing body president, opened the stage. Pranamika Saikia and Bhabesh Kumar Deka served as the event’s anchors, and principal Dr Gitali Kalita gave the welcome address. Seven students who achieved a graduation CGPA of greater than 7.0 were given merit awards. Furthermore, Sikhamani Baruah, the college’s Philosophy department topper in the BA final exam, received a special award.

An engaging performance by the well-known Assamese singer Dipanwita Deka, who mesmerised the audience with her soulful music, capped off the day’s cultural events. Setting a positive tone for the new academic year at Deomornoi Degree College, the event was the ideal fusion of celebration, recognition, and inspiration.
