DIPHU, March 16: The Redeemer, a Diphu-based progressive rock band from Karbi Anglong won the ‘Rockville Battle of The Bands’ contest and brought home a cash prize of Rs. 40,000. The competition was organised by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Nagaland and was held at Dimapur on March 11.
The band has won various rock competitions before. The band was the first runners-up and best vocalist in the Nagaland Best Contest held at Tachura Engineering College in November 2022 and the second runners-up and best vocalist in the National Rock Contest, 49th Karbi Youth Festival held from 15 to 19 February last.
The band- The Redeemer was formed on October 1, 2022, with four members. The members are college-going students studying in various colleges and higher secondary schools in Diphu, Karbi Anglong.
Speaking to The Hills Times the vocalist Sarsonot Ronghang said, “We are very fortunate that we could represent Karbi Anglong in other states and we are grateful to everyone for their support. In the Rockville Battle of The Bands, we presented four songs, two covers and two original numbers.”
On music, to the upcoming generation, Ronghang said, “I just want to say that music is the only thing that people love and listen to. I just want to say to the young generation to please support local bands so that we can reach higher levels.”
He also said that the band will be releasing their original song ‘love you till the end’ soon.
