Additional district commissioner Lakshya Jyoti Das initiated the meeting by outlining its purpose and facilitating discussions on various aspects of drug addiction, including areas of concern, age groups affected by addiction, hotspots of drug peddling, and related issues within the context of Nagaon district.

A draft Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) to combat drug-related challenges in the district was presented, highlighting the formation of a circle level committee to address these issues. Attendees were invited to provide suggestions and insights on the proposed strategies.

In his address, the district commissioner stressed the importance of tackling both the demand and supply of drugs. He emphasised that, besides rehabilitation efforts and police actions, the role of society as a whole is crucial in addressing the rising problem of drug abuse among youth and children.

The meeting was attended by additional superintendent of police of Nagaon, Partha Protim Saikia, circle officers, block development officers (BDOs), representatives from Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), civil society members, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and other stakeholders concerned with the issue. An official statement released following the meeting provided these details.
