DIBRUGARH, March 15: The district level coordination committee (DLCC) on Tuesday held a meeting regarding implementation of the National Tobacco Control Programme in the district.
The meeting was chaired by additional deputy comissioner Biswajit Phukan, additional S P (security and intelligence) David Neingaite, members of the committee, concerned authorities, stakeholders, representatives of organisations and concerned departmental officers were present in the meeting.
The meeting focused on awareness in public and private schools, among students and teachers about how to aware the students of the health hazards due to consumption of tobacco. In order to aware the young generation like installation of tobacco free signage was discussed in the meeting.
To control this issue, focus group discussion (FGD) is formed which consists of ASHAs, AWW, youth groups, teachers, pregnant women, tobacco users and there are about 48 FGDs in Dibrugarh. It was reported in the meeting that from January till March 14,2023 about 72 numbers of people were counseled by tobacco counseling centre and 2 persons have quit tobacco.
A total of 10 numbers of training batches have participated this year on tobacco awareness programme comprising of 30 participants each which comprised of NGOs, police personnel, school teachers, community health officers, ASHAs etc.
