JORHAT, Aug 14: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Jorhat has taken a commendable step towards inclusivity by appointing Ansu Bhuyan, a specially-abled youth with adept social media skills, as the social media organiser for their legal aid providing platform. Ansu Bhuyan, who possesses a strong understanding of various social media platforms, will utilise his skills to conduct e-legal awareness and other related activities on behalf of DLSA.
DLSA secretary-cum judicial officer Devojyoti Bhuyan shared that Ansu Bhuyan has been formally engaged as a Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) to fulfill this crucial role. The engagement letter was handed over to Ansu Bhuyan in a brief ceremony by DLSA chairman P Das, who is also the District and Sessions Judge of Jorhat. During the event, Ansu was symbolically seated in the Chair of DLSA secretary, with his nameplate displaying the designated role.
Ansu Bhuyan, along with the assistance of four law students, will predominantly work from home, visiting the office once a month. Their primary objective is to disseminate legal awareness and address legal issues for common people by utilising WhatsApp broadcast services. The outreach will target Gaon Pradhans, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, Jivika Sakhis, VDP members, and other grassroots society workers.
Devojyoti Bhuyan highlighted that Ansu Bhuyan’s potential was recognised during a month-long awareness program conducted in December 2023, focusing on the rights of specially-abled individuals and the government benefits available to them. Ansu expressed his interest in contributing his IT-related skills for the betterment of society.
This initiative reflects DLSA’s commitment to expanding its activities to the grassroots level, utilising the power of social media to raise legal awareness and address concerns. Ansu Bhuyan’s appointment not only empowers him but also stands as an inspiring example of providing equal opportunities to specially-abled individuals, fostering societal empowerment.
Devojyoti Bhuyan expressed optimism that this move will motivate society to recognise the potential of specially-abled individuals and offer them avenues for meaningful engagement. Ansu Bhuyan will receive an honorarium for his dedicated services, in line with his role as a Para Legal Volunteer.
