KOKRAJHAR, July 12: In a tragic incident near Bhumiswar Hill in Chirang district, an 18-year-old girl, Janmoni Rabha from Tezpur, drowned in Kujiya River. Her body was recovered on Friday following the incident on Thursday at Kachugaon Rabhapara village. Janmoni had gone to visit her elder sister when she drowned while attempting to rescue her sister’s 2-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Despite her brave efforts, Janmoni lost her life while the child survived.
Local sources reported that Janmoni fell from a bridge during the rescue attempt. The district administration of Chirang, along with NDRF and SDRF teams, conducted a thorough search operation leading to the recovery of her body, which has been sent for postmortem examination.
Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma and Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary visited the grieving family to offer their condolences and support during this difficult time. “We extend our deepest sorrow and sympathy to the bereaved family,” stated minister Brahma, alongside Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary.
