Drug peddler injured in police firing at Nizuri under Misa Outpost

NAGAON, April 22: Saddam Hussain, a purported drug peddler was shot at and injured in police firing at Nizuri under Misa Outpost on Friday night while trying to escape from police after arrest.

The injured drug peddler was immediately admitted to Jakhalabandha Hospital where doctor on duty referred him to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital.

Sources from Nagaon police claimed that the accused was arrested along with 8 soap boxes, 6 plastic containers filled with 105 suspected narcotics like heroin near Gorumara area under Samaguri PS by a police team led by SDPO, Kaliabor Rupam Bordoloi on Friday evening while he was transporting the suspected narcotics substance on a motorcycle. Police immediately seized the narcotics as well as his motorcycle on the spot.

Subsequently, based on his statement, police took him to his house situated at Kuhumtoli under Samaguri PS and conducted a raid at the house during which police were able to seize Rs 25,150 in cash there. Later, police took him to the Nizuri area in search of a hidden store of drug consignment at midnight. When the police team reached near Hatbagan, the accused requested police to stop the police vehicle as he felt the tendency to use the bathroom and the driver stopped the vehicle. But the accused leaped on the police personnel and tried to escape from the police.

Meanwhile police fired one round into the air to stop him. When he did not stop, a bullet was fired aiming below his waist. As a result, the accused finally fell down, sources said, adding that a case was registered in this regard and further legal formalities are on till the time of filing this report.
